A recent study published in Respiratory Medicine examined the effectiveness of a respiratory therapist-led, community-based asthma program in an under-resourced rural border community in California.
The project was led by MSRC graduate Torrie Staten as her capstone research, with Dr. Abdullah Alismail contributing as part of the research team.
The findings highlight the potential value of respiratory therapists taking leadership roles in community-based asthma care, particularly in areas where access to healthcare resources may be limited.
The project adds to the growing body of evidence supporting expanded respiratory therapist involvement in patient education, disease management, and community healthcare initiatives.
